Porter was born in New Hampshire in 1868.

She was the daughter of Francis H.

Hodgman.

She had to leave school at an early age due to poor health.

She studied music at the New England Conservatory for a while.

Undoubtedly, music gave her a softness and sensitivity to her view of the world.

At the age of 24, she married John L.

Porter.

Her first novels were "Cross Currents", "The Tide's Receding" and "Billy".

This graceful, delicate girl described her own life and feelings in her novel "Pollyanna", which brought happiness to many people and gave them a taste of optimism.

"Pollyanna", a favorite of children and adults, sold millions of copies as soon as it was published.

The little girl, the heroine of the novel, was a fairy of happiness who looked for optimism in every event and painted the darkness of the world pink.

Porter said goodbye to her millions of little readers on May 23, 1920.
