Despite being found among the so-called intellectuals of the period, ömer, who always questions himself and society, procrastinates the effort he needs to achieve economic relief, and while trying to comply with general rules, he actually tries to escape from them, leaves macide in the middle of this complex order. The desperate young woman tries to make a place for herself in the world of the man she loves

While complaining about the ordinaryness of life, being carried away by the flow and not striving to get out of it, ömer puts all the blame on the devil inside

Once he gives himself to that devil, his life becomes irreversibly, and he opens up irreparable wounds. There is not much macide can do for him, who realizes that he cannot turn ömer away. The devil within us, first published in a newspaper in 1939, was published as a book in 1940. It has also been translated into various languages, mainly german, bulgarian and romanian
