Dipnot Yayınları Committee of Union and Progress and Kurds

Product description

In a period when different peoples within the ottoman empire sought to achieve their own independence under the influence of the nation-building trend, and as a result, major upheavals/revolutions occurred, the union and progress society, established at the end of the nineteenth century, highlighted turkism/turkishness in order to save the empire entering the decline process. Let's face it, the price of being backed by one side in the struggle between great powers and dreaming of turan has been too heavy. in the meantime, the ancient peoples of anatolia have suffered from oppression, massacre, and forced displacement, just like the majority. The new republic established in 1923 continued its approach towards the kurdish people with the same understanding as the unionists, and efforts were made to 'eliminate' the kurdish issue with denial/asimilation/ethnic policies.

This book, which maintains its characteristic of being a fundamental reference in the subject it addresses, examines the most interesting organizations that history has witnessed, the union and progress, based on documents and historical testimonies, in the context of the awakening and development of national consciousness in the kurds, and in relation to the leading kurdish individuals and institutions of the period, providing insights that will enable the reader to evaluate the current point more accurately.
