On March 9th, 2012, my cameraman friend Hamit Coşkun and I were kidnapped by the armed militias of the Assad regime in Syria, where we went to shoot a documentary.

What we experienced in the underground prison after we were kidnapped introduced us to a whole new world.

It was such a world that we were ashamed of our humanity most of the time.

While staying in the underground prison, where we witnessed unimaginable torture and cruelty, we felt that life outside was becoming more and more distant from us every day, turning into a dream.Because this world established by the Assad regime underground was like a completely different planet, a completely different realm.

The only way to survive in the underground prison, where evil and tyranny dominated from top to bottom, was to cling to faith and hope.

We did so, and we discovered once again what a great opportunity faith and hope are for human beings.
