Dergah Yayınları Hüsrev ü Şirin

Product description

Hüsrev ü Şirin is Tanpınar's first work.

After arriving in Istanbul and studying at the Baytar School for a year, Tanpınar intended to study philosophy or history at the Darülfünun, but when he learned that Yahya Kemal, to whom he would later become attached and intellectually nourished, was teaching in the literature department, he enrolled in this department.

In those years, it was necessary to write a graduation thesis to graduate from the Darülfünun.Tanpınar, probably with the guidance of his teachers, prepared Hüsrev ü Şirin by Şeyhî, one of the most important poets of our classical literature, as his graduation thesis.

This thesis, which Tanpınar prepared in 1923, has been transferred to today's alphabet and the translations of the couplets in the text are given in the footnotes for the convenience of the reader.
