summary: the year is 1944, world war ii has reached our borders. Even though turkey resisted to join this war on the day when fascism set all of europe on fire, its effects will be felt throughout the country. Bread, sugar, fuel and other basic necessities have been rationed, and a curfew has been implemented everywhere at night to prevent sudden raids from outside. This is also a period when pressure is applied to the country's intellectuals. Rıfat ilgaz describes these pitch-black days in "darkening nights." Mustafa ural, an intellectual, poet, and literature teacher, is sought after for his published and collected poetry book.

he has health problems, so he doesn't want to give up immediately.

it takes refuge in the cold and darkened streets of istanbul, in the homes of friends and loved ones. When he was arrested, the war was over, but the scars left by the war years in turkey will not be erased for a long time. Rıfat ilgaz sheds light on the 1940s of our country affected by the war while telling the story of mustafa ural's escape. The film of karartma geceleri, which has won numerous first-place awards in national and international competitions, has garnered as much attention as its novel.
