summary:Ernaux's father dies two months after his daughter passes her teaching exams. After this death, the author equates his father's transition from a worker to a petty tradesman, whose value has been measured only by muscle strength since childhood, his social position and his relationship to himself, who was poorly educated. If they are poured into lines, it is not dramatic souvenirs, but a “class” story told through a portrait.Dad's place is a text that scrutinizes a man's “place” both in society and in the eyes of his daughter, and conveys an extremely personal subject without hesitation, transforming it into universality with a lean style.“a tremendous literary success in which feelings and pathos are intertwined.”The world“ernaux inherited from simone de beauvoir the role of a chronicler of a generation’s history.”Margaret drabble margaret drabble
