"when i started writing ""centennial solitude"", i wanted to find a way to convey everything that had influenced me in my childhood through literature."
My goal was to leave my childhood days behind in an artistic language, spent among a huge, gloomy house, a soil-eating sister, a grandmother who was always looking to the future, and a child who did not distinguish between happiness and madness, with names that were passed on to a pile of relatives. I wrote the century of solitude in less than two years, but it took me fifteen or sixteen years to think about this book before my typewriter sat down.
my grandmother used to tell me the most cruel things, without even blinking, as if they were only the usual things she saw. I realized that what makes the stories he tells so valuable is his callous attitude and the richness in his images. I wrote the century of solitude using this method of my grandmother's.
i have known ordinary people who read this novel with attention and pleasure, without any surprise.
they were not surprised, because i had not told them anything new in their lives, you will not find a single sentence in my book that is not based on reality.
