Yes, a charcoal pen (fusain pen) is quite suitable for transferring patterns in Chinese painting, and it is one of the frequently used practical methods. It is especially preferred in the transfer of perforated pattern paper (cross-stitch) to the biscuit surface instead of coal dust or to support the dust. Here are the advantages and considerations of using a charcoal pencil for pattern transfer: Clean and Crisp Results: Compared to scattering charcoal powder (with a bundle), using a charcoal pencil to trace the back of the pattern yields cleaner and more defined results. Soft Texture: Thanks to their soft texture, charcoal pencils won't damage the surface of biscuits or paper during pattern transfer. How to Use: Completely trace the back of the pattern paper with a charcoal pencil, then place the pattern on the biscuit, go over it again, and let the charcoal come to the surface. Things to Note: When sharpening a charcoal pencil, use a craft knife to gently open the lead. Using a pencil sharpener can cause the pencil to break. Transcribing Stage: The pattern transferred by the charcoal pen provides preparation for the transcribing (contour drawing) stage. In summary, coal pencil is a comfortable and effective material for transferring patterns in the art of china
