Omer, a twelve-year-old living in a one-room house with his mother in a small village in pakistan, is eligible for a scholarship to study at ghalib academy, one of the country's most prestigious schools. Omer counts down the days to start classes, play soccer on the school team, and join the science club. But at this prestigious school, scholarship students are not only prohibited from joining any team or club during their first years, but they are also required to serve at the school for five hours a week. Worse still, the school administration requires a near-impossible grade point average for scholarship students to continue their studies.
