History of chess

Evidence suggests that chess was played in egypt at least 4000 years ago. it was also played in china, mesopotamia, and anatolia. the game acquired its current name in india during the 3rd to 4th centuries ad, where it was called caturanga. the earliest written records of chess originate from india. later, chess spread to iran, then to the arabs, and eventually to europe via spain, thanks to the moors. after arabic and european manuscript books, the first printed chess book, by the spanishman lucena (1497), outlined the then-new rules of chess.

Since then, the rules of the chess game have remained unchanged.after spain, chess quickly spread to italy, france, germany, the united states and russia.there are chess books by the spanish lucena in the 15th century, the spanish el greco in the 17th century, the french philidor in the 18th century.at the end of the 19th century, the great stars of chess appeared: anderssen, morphy, rubinstein and steinitz.starting in the 1850s, tournaments were held with the participation of strong players.finally, in 1886, the first world chess championship match was played between the two strongest chess players of the time: steinitz and zukertort.steinitz won this match with 10 wins, 5 draws and 5 losses (+10 -5 =5).

The first official world chess champion is wilhelm steinitz.steinits is also the father of the concept of systematic play of chess.the starting point of steinitz's theory is "to play in chess by making a plan in accordance with the features of the position."his views and works on the "features of the position" have become the basis of modern chess play.
