summary:Judith schalansky, who has been seen as worthy of numerous awards with her novels, essays, and book designs, draws attention to the increasingly disturbing ecological disaster in the wobbly canaries, which has been deemed worthy of the 2023 wortmeldungen literary award for critical short texts. In addition to this, it also deals with early warning systems that seem inadequate in the face of these ecological crises. The current situation is artistically intertwined with the past, aesthetic motifs, imagination, and emotion, always associated with the need to seek an appropriate tool for warning.

The image of the canary bird, which was the source of inspiration for schalansky, suddenly went silent, once alerting mine workers to the drop in oxygen levels. While addressing the role of literature as a mental stimulus with nature's warning signals, it also demonstrates how literature can become a center of perception in social and global issues.

I was the canary in the cage, and it made me understand that i'm still here, that the dangerous situation isn't just determined by science, but can also be experienced and understood through art.

]”In this striking essay of schalansky's, which is multi-layered and meticulously crafted, we understand that the lack of information is not a problem of our time.Accordingly, one must possess the necessary skills to gather and evaluate information, and to draw accurate conclusions from one's own actions.Literature can make a significant contribution by making knowledge experiential through events and figures, by animating possibilities, and by embodying visions, thus creating an emotional impact.

it is the first step to move this humanity.

Judith schalansky invites us all to take this leap.
