"nathan zuckerman, the literary alter ego we have encountered in his other novels, this time draws a portrait of seymour levov, the baseball star nicknamed ""sarıkafa"", whom he knew from high school years."

he's writing the story based on what seymour's brother jerry told him, a couple of newspaper clippings and two short encounters with the yellow submarine.

the legendary athlete of high school years, the idol of young and old, 'sarıkafa' seymour levov has reached adolescence in prosperous and passionate post-war america.

seymour is a wealthy hard-working responsible businessman who marries new jersey nice, taking over his father's factory, and is a good family father.

but the misfortune will stop laughing at your face after one point. As seymour ages, america becomes crazy and the country goes through a turbulent 60s, losing everything he loves, literally going crazy.

History inevitably imposes its will on the family of the sarıkafas: his daughter not only bombed the post office in the area where they live to 'protest' the vietnam war, causing the death of someone passing by, but also killed an innocent man, thus dynamiting the bonds between him and his father, who idolized him.

there will be no more hope for happiness or spiritual harmony in sarkaphage's life. In the post-war years, a political and social panorama of america is drawn by questioning the reasons that pushed her daughter into this behavior.

the events described in the novel stretch back to 1974, when the public was transfixed by the watergate scandal. Roth's pastoral america, which won the pulitzer prize in 1997, is not only the story of a fortunate american's rise and fall

it's the tale of a strong and confident social balance master who was crushed by social chaos.20. It is also a lament for the welfare, social order, and happy family life promises of the century.
