Economics is in our lives at every moment

all the decisions we make, which school we will go to, which job we will choose, even which spouse we will choose, are now determined by cost-benefit analyses. All those ethical values that make us human beings are put aside, while the virtues of the market can justify all immoralities. Employees can be as compassionate as they want in the evenings at home or on sundays with their loved ones, but the economy says that they have to adopt an ruthless and competitive character to achieve maximum social benefit at work. And to conquer it is really difficult-the debt in the twenty-first century serves the same purpose as the hunger in the nineteenth century, domesticating even the most savage, the most fierce and unruly, teaching them to be unscientific and decent, to obey and bow their neck. So, what should we do, how can we say that the economy's influence on our lives, to what extent can we push the economy from our decisions? Is it possible for human virtues and societal values to harness the power of the market, and to do so more effectively? Can one imagine a life more generous, more abundant, and full of abundance? Can we move away from the competitive, predatory, self-centered individuals created by the global economic understanding and put selflessness, helpfulness, and sharing at the center of our characters? Philip roscoe shows the ways of existence without spending, without spending humanity and the world.
