Ayrıntı Yayınları Dorian Gray'in Portresi

Product description

Oscar Wilde's shocking novel, published in 1890, looks at the dark side of modern man. When Dorian Gray is painted, he is mesmerized by his own extraordinary beauty. Tired of experiencing the world's beauty, and increasingly old and decadent, he is driven by the provocations of his friend Lord Henry Wotton to remain beautiful and young

he is convinced by him that if his soul remains young, his outward appearance will also remain young. The novel begins in the studio of the painter Basil Hallward at the end of the nineteenth century, the close of an era, and extends to the opium and drug dens in the far east of London. The painter, too, is frightened by the portrait he has painted of himself, and a strange timidity ravages his soul: A smile of pleasure spread across his face as he gazed at the elegant and handsome figure he had captured in his art, as if he wanted to linger there for a while. Suddenly, however, he sat up with a start, closed his eyes and pressed his fingertips over his eyelids, as if he wished to shut up in his brain a strange dream that he feared to wake up and lose.
