since 1918, closely with the region, promising the people liberation and waiting for the most suitable time for this, mustafa kemal pasha started the liberation process in 1936.

as a result of intense diplomatic efforts, the league of nations agreed to give independence to the sanjak of alexandretta on january 1937.

the choices were made, the hatay people ' s assembly, which consisted of 40 members of the people ' s assembly, met on 2 september 1938.

the name of the state was accepted as “hatay province”.

hatay state was a turkish state governed by the republic.

all the speeches of the hatay people ' s assembly were recorded in the proceedings, the laws were published in the official newspaper of the state.

Considering the agreement between turkey and france in 1939 and the treaty that cleansed the region from the existence and all the effects of the mandator state, which had no effect in reality, the hatay people's assembly decided to join turkey by ending its existence in its extraordinary meeting on june 29, 1939.

hatay became a province of turkey.
