Alfa Yayınları Tolstoy Bütün Eserleri 17 (Hardcover): Essays on Education + Color Highlighter

Product description

The education of large masses, as a result of the “people's” movement and thought, which spread in russia from the middle of the xix century, affected the enlightened circles as well as the tsarist government. Village schools have been opened and started to be widespread. However, both the physical conditions of schools and the content of compulsory lessons, along with the inadequacies of teachers, have forced intellectuals, led by tolstoy, to take action. In yasnaya polyana, combining the educational themes he explored during his european travels with his own life experiences, tolstoy established an experimental school.

Although he couldn't continue this experience due to political reasons, it's possible to see the effects of the articles he wrote on education during that period, the discussions he had with old-school educators, his thoughts on education and teaching, and the way his lessons were delivered in his school, in today's education system. Beyond his literary prowess, tolstoy stands as one of the rare educators who demonstrates what, how, and for what purpose things should be done.
