Product description

The roman statesman and philosopher cicero retires to his villa in tusculum after the assassination of caesar in 44 bc, having put an end to his political affairs. The sorrow he felt after losing his daughter tullia in 45 bc also played a significant role in this retreat. During this period of turmoil, when rome was trying to calm the storms in its soul by distancing itself from its political and social vices, it found solace in philosophy and set out to rebuild greek philosophy in rome with the works it wrote one after another. This work, dedicated to his lifelong friend atticus, whom he affectionately called "old atticus," is a testament to the productive years he spent in tusculum, considered the final chapter of his life. In this work, which can also be considered as a consolation for old age and death, cicero makes the elder catius, one of the leading personalities of rome, the main speaker and tries to explain his opinions, which he transmits from his language, with examples he has chosen from greek and roman history. The insights presented in this work encapsulate the moral teachings and longevity philosophies of greek philosophy.

Thus, from his youth onwards, he had the opportunity to compare the views of all greek philosophical schools, from the academy of plato to epicureanism, with his own understanding of life and express them in a unique style.
