Alfa Yayınları Important Mathematicians: the Lives and Works of the Pioneers of Mathematics + Color Highlighter

Product description

Looking at the history of all branches of science, we say that "we now know this is wrong" or "this was the right way, but today's opinion is different" about most of the subjects. Aristotle's ideas about motion were challenged by galileo and newton.

whereas, math is different - it is permanent. The ancient babylonians discovered a method for solving second-degree equations over four thousand years ago, and their findings remain valid to this day.

it was right and they knew why, and it still is today.

we express the result in symbols , but the reasoning is the same.

there is a line of uninterrupted mathematical thinking from babylon to the present.

mathematics is created by human beings. From archimedes to liu hui, muhammed al-harazmi to benoit mandelbrot, the father of fractals, this book features the 25 most influential figures in the history of mathematics and their groundbreaking work. This isn't just a story of numbers

it's an extraordinary tale kneaded with wisdom. In this latest book, ian stewart proves himself to be a brilliant math historian as he recounts the stories of 25 mathematical pioneers, from archimedes in 250 bc to 21st-century mathematician william thurston. "-keith devlin, stanford university, author of ""in the footsteps of fibonacci""ian stewart talks about how mathematics has shaped our world." "-steven strogatz, professor of mathematics, cornell university"stewart's magnificent book conveys the two-thousand-year history of mathematics.
