Product description

This captivating melodrama by renowned czech playwright and novelist karel kohout is built upon a powerful sentiment about the uncertainties of political and moral commitment. It's 1945, and the high command is beginning to organize a mass "retreat" designed to "trap" the allied forces. Simultaneously, a hunt is initiated for the savage "vampire," who is terrifyingly slaughtering its victims.

Kohout presents the wounded hearts and minds of his main characters: young czech detective of murders jan morava, whose new-found romantic happiness will be significantly tested by the horror of the case that has been placed on him. Widow erwin bubacka, who was gestapo's liaison officer with czech authorities, suffered from remorse and tried to avoid being complicit in the crimes of his homeland. ...and a psychopath who, driven by a relentless pursuit of accuracy, chases his dreams with a fervor bordering on obsession. The story culminates in a thrilling showdown, where evacuation attempts in prague intersect with a detective's relentless pursuit of a human target.
