summary:The specialist in the medieval literature, the powerful pen of the contemporary russian literature, yevgeny vodolazkin, is returning to the question of european and russian history, the satirical satirical myth of progress and the clericalism of the war.

blurring the boundaries between history and fiction with mastery, it draws on mythology, chronicles, and theological texts to deliver an authentic narrative that questions the concepts of time and memory. An island story tells the cyclical nature of human history within a microcosm.

spanning from the middle ages to modern times, an island chronicle shaped by power struggles, civil wars, betrayals, plagues, droughts, innovations, and revolutions is left to the future in the testimony of monks. An island story, where the individual and the universal, tragedy and grotesque intertwine, deals with the reliability of historical narration, the interference of power in memory and the inalterability of the human nature. An island, a history, a prophecy… two rulers who defy time and monks.

a legendary saga of a lost civilization.

“working on the laurus, i was a healer, a madman, a pilgrim and a monk. Now, a decade later, i've dared to become a case study – and i've felt the weight of the responsibility that comes with documenting the past.

history is another name for experience.

in the end, only the story remains from life.An island story, although it seems dedicated only to a piece of land, reflects much more within a drop of water.
