One side of each stone is divided in half by a transverse line and the numbers are marked on it with dots from 0-0 to 6-6, indicated by the empty square, just as in the case of dice.

The aim of the game is to arrange the stones with common end numbers by matching them. For example, a 6-1 tile and a 1-5 tile are placed so that the ones are end-to-end.

At the beginning of the game, the tiles are shuffled with their faces to the ground.

The game is played with two players, maximum four players.

Players draw one tile from a set called "bank" or "garden".

The player who draws the highest numbered tile wins the right to start the game.

The tiles are shuffled again and each player draws seven tiles.

The remaining stones are drawn by the players one by one throughout the game.

The first player places the stone with the highest number or pair on the table face up.

The second player places next to this stone the stone that matches one of the numbers on either end of the stone.

The "pairs" are usually placed perpendicular to the other stones and in some types of games they give the player the right to play a second time.

If a player does not have a matching piece, he/she draws a piece from the garden until a suitable piece arrives.

When a player finishes all the pieces in his/her hand, he/she says "domino" and wins the game.

The other players receive penalty points equal to the total number of pieces left in their hand.

If no player finishes all the pieces in his/her hand, the player with the least number of pieces wins the game
