Product description

In this autobiographical novel, schreiner looks back on his sixties, what he calls "the seventh decade of his life," towards its seventh year. "games played in the courtyard, relatives, peers, a crazy dog, the curiosity and fear awakened by the words heard for the first time... the author, who declared war on the world where fathers are also ""daddy"" for mothers, meets a child, a child of the '68 generation."

an unafraid, uncensored, heartfelt confrontation that will have you laughing out loud at times. What business do i have, really, with a seven-year-old trying to uncover the secrets of a laundry room while i'm sitting in a house on the edge of a nature reserve, at the age of sixty-six, writing? Was i inventing the seven-year-old by writing on it, or was it really there, and if it was, could it have been someone completely different from what i described? … when i stand in front of the mirror, i can't see any traces of that seven-year-old on my face.

i can't see it any better than an eighteen, twenty or thirty year old.

all this is only in my mind, in the universe of my mind and in parallel universes.

it's strange, how my mind manages to pour these various types of ben into a single mold, into my life. Carpenter baba.

mom. Child. He wrote a complete austrian novel with war announcements. In other words, it's a novel that sits comfortably within the tradition of the 1970s and 80s, and owes a great deal to its predecessors from those years, such as handke's *i'm not afraid of happiness* and bernhard's autobiographical trilogy.
