Türkiye İş Bankası Kültür Yayınları Uyanış - Modern Klasikler Dizisi

Product description

When kate chopin's novel, known for its works that embody new orleans culture and advocate for local colors in literature, was published in 1899, it shook the american public. "the awakening, which describes a woman's awakening and declaration of her individuality by standing on her own feet, is somewhat compared to madame bovary in some ways." Although chopin's objective approach to the independent female character, pursuing her own desires, attracted timely criticism, the novel's stylistic beauty and sensitivity were highly praised. The importance that chopin gave to women's liberation and her pioneering the way for subsequent feminist writers led to the re-emergence of her works in the late 20th century, especially the awakening, which had long been forgotten.

some critics who re-examined the novel highlighted its “bold” realism.

per seyersted's 1969 biography of kate chopin was the product of a comprehensive study of the writer's life and work.

the discovery of his stories, letters and journals, which had not been exposed to the light of day before, revealed a portrait of the author, different from the known by that day, much more tenacious and with a stake. Thus, kate chopin has earned her place among the important writers of 19th century american literature.
