“the god of flies is a story written for children, originally describing the adventures of children who fell on a deserted island. it can be assumed that it is a contemporary adaptation of r.

m.

ballantyne's coral island. Even golding gives the two main characters of the god of flies the names ralph and jack, which they received from the children of coral island, as if he wanted to reinforce this reader's assumption with his characteristic sarcasm.

In coral island, ballantyne, quite sentimental and somewhat bonkers, describes how three young englishmen, after the sinking of their ships in the pacific ocean, took refuge on a desert island and how they re-established a rather successful miniature of the great britain civilization.

there is also a coral island and english children in golding's lord of the flies. But these children, who are between the ages of six and twelve, have fallen into this coral island because the plane they were riding to be taken to a safe place during the future atomic war was attacked.

and what happens on this coral island is nothing like what happens in ballantyne's novel.
