Halit ziya uşaklıgil's first novel, *sefile*, written in 1887 when he was still in his twenties, is the story of mazlume, who, orphaned at a young age, is dragged into the most terrifying depths of a vortex of begging and prostitution. Sefile is a sketch where some of the techniques and themes used by halit ziya in his masterful period works are experimented with, and at this point, it is also an open-ended first novel to different readings. Halit ziya uşaklıgil (1867-1945) spent his childhood in istanbul and his early youth in izmir as a member of the renowned uşakizade family.

Love of a grateful heart, broken lives, and many more stories followed one after another.
