Türkiye İş Bankası Kültür Yayınları Satranç / Stefan Zweig /

Product description

Stefan Zweig is one of the rare writers who has made full use of his vast psychological knowledge in his works.

It is this characteristic, namely that he is a master psychologist as well as a writer, that is at the heart of his well-deserved reputation as a biographer in world literature.

Chess is a story in which Zweig brings his psychological knowledge fully into play, and the protagonists of this story are presented in exactly the same way as the author handles the people he deals with in his biographies.

When Zweig wrote Chess, one of the few prose texts he completed just before his death, he was living in Brazil, where he had emigrated with his wife Lotte Zweig.

In Chess, he chose a cruise ship sailing from New York to Buenos Aires as the setting.

Three people who meet on this ship by sheer coincidence: Mirko Czentovic, the new world chess champion

the narrator, an ordinary chess player

and Dr.

B., who was once a master chess player but has been away from chess for some time, are the actors in the story
