Türkiye İş Bankası Kültür Yayınları Lord Jım

Product description

In lord jim, joseph conrad's magnum opus serialized in blackwood's magazine from october 1899 to november 1900, the themes of lost honor, isolation, the contrast between illusion and reality, trust, and betrayal are central. When the cruise ship named patna was in danger of sinking, the second captain, jim, a young englishman, abandoned the ship. The guilt and regret he feels over this "cowardly" act never truly leaves him.

publicly condemned in front of the public. After being ostracized from the civilized world and unable to continue his maritime career that began with grand dreams, jim must reckon with himself and his past. The work, which conrad initially designed as a story but turned into a voluminous novel due to its out-of-control nature, attracts attention with its narrative technique. The narrative of marlow, who recounts the story of patusan, a fictional place assumed to be a part of indonesia, where jim is, and the voices of other characters mixing into it, gives the reader the opportunity to evaluate the events from different perspectives. Lord jim was included in modern library's list of the 100 best english-language novels of the 20th century in 1998.
