John stuart mill (1806-1873) was the most influential british philosopher of the 19th century and a model victorian intellectual who wrote in a style that would appeal even to the average person about all the important issues of the era.

including membership in the parliament, he was a thinker who was actively involved in the events of his era, and for this role, he was specially trained by his father james mill.

he made significant contributions to metaphysics, epistemology, morality, social philosophy, political philosophy, philosophy of religion, and philosophy of education.

he became influential and famous with his books freedom supreme, system of logic and principles of political economy.

stood on personal independence.

he is the thinker who explains liberal culture in the widest terms in a philosophical way.

used the concept of independence to relate individual benefit to common good from a political perspective.

he tried to overcome the division between worker and employer by making entrepreneurship universal, from an economic point of view.

because of his democratic stance, he was seen by some as a socialist.

mill embodied the authenticity of victorian style with its emphasis on character and deferred pleasure. Harriet taylor's relationship with her father, who influenced her the most, is an indication that this understanding of virtue is not just in thought, but also reflected in her personal life with the same consistency.

she also advocated independence for women, pondering on how gender equality could contribute to achieving satisfaction in the lives of independent individuals with liberal culture. The approach to discussing john stuart mill's liberalism continues to be the starting point for all subsequent debates.
