Product description

Isbn: 9789753420969 Author: fatmagül berktay Publisher: metis publishing Language: turkish Volume: paperback Summary: "recognizing the woman's secondary nature and considering this as a legitimate reason for controlling her body is a common feature of all three monotheistic religions.

Even though this shared characteristic can be explained by their birth and development, stemming from their shared or closely related lands and similar material conditions, and responding to similar needs across all three historical and geographical traditions, what's interesting is that they also focused on women's attitudes and understanding in their contemporary expressions.

today, we see that the protestant and islamic fundamentalism also focus on women's position and supervision, and legitimate themselves through social gender and the "right" social role of women.

The comparative approach, in this case, will prevent the mistake of seeing religious revival as a phenomenon unique to islam, by discounting particularism and orientalism, and will help to see that fundamentalism is not something limited and incomprehensible to the "exotic" area of islam.
