. "felatun bey and rakım efendi is a novel that i have read many times with great pleasure, and i think it is ideal for those who want to start reading ahmet mithat's novel." "-nüket esen- two distinct characters, mr. felatun and mr. rakım, appear in ottoman istanbul in the last quarter of the nineteenth century." Mr. felatun is a character who doesn't fully understand western and eastern cultures, being pretentious, spoiled, and extravagant. on the other hand, mr. rakım is a hardworking, traditional, and frugal individual who uniquely blends both eastern and western cultures. These two characters find themselves in sometimes funny, sometimes thought-provoking events throughout the novel. In this novel, ahmet mithat, through two different characters he constructs, exaggeratedly records the changes and conflicts experienced in the ottoman society at the end of the nineteenth century due to the influence of western-style modernization. This novel by ahmet mithat has been prepared for publication by özcan kaya, who teaches at boğaziçi and koç universities. The editing was carried out by tülay gençtürk demircioğlu, an associate professor from boğaziçi university. This edition of the novel has been prepared with the aim of being as suitable as possible for the language and spirit of the era, but also understandable for today's reader.
