Product description

Franz kafka: office correspondence brings together some of the most interesting examples of the business correspondence that kafka produced during his time as a high-ranking bureaucrat.

These exchanges reveal that kafka was not an insignificant bureaucrat who, contrary to popular belief, had become lost in the mundane paperwork of the office and withdrawn from everyday life, seeking refuge in his imagination. instead, he was a skilled lawyer, an astute legal researcher, and an intellectual with innovative ideas on the social, economic, and political issues of his time.

The book examines the parallels between kafka’s office correspondence and his literary works, arguing that the two identities, which were previously thought to be incompatible, are actually mutually reinforcing and inseparable. it suggests that the novels he wrote at night were inspired by the office correspondence he produced during the day. This study, prepared by two of the world’s leading kafka scholars and one of america’s foremost human rights lawyers, offers a very different perspective that allows us to better understand kafka’s world.

This mature work fills a gap in kafka’s oeuvre and changes the perception of him as a genius who, while working at an insurance company during the day, also wrote novels at night, and who was tormented by the contradiction of his life.
