The BBQ thermometer itself is not waterproof, with the exception of the stainless steel probe. Just open the meat probe and go. The intelligent automatic on/off switch turns the thermometer on or off when the probe is folded in and out. Use the hold button to 'hold' the temperature value on the display. The food thermometer starts reading immediately after unfolding and automatically turns off after 10 minutes of inactivity. Comes with 1 AAA battery; easy battery replacement. Refer to cooking thermometer guidelines on the package for desired doneness. Short press MAX/MIN button to show MAX or MIN temperature. Long press °C/°F multifunction button to switch temperature unit.
