Product description

Simone de beauvoir's first novel, the hostess, was published in 1943, during the ongoing second world war, one of the most influential pens of the 20th century. At this date, france was under german occupation, and the collaborating vichy government was trying to keep the masses with it by promoting values such as homeland, family, work.

guest girl has a fiction and atmosphere that is completely opposite to this understanding. As war approaches, the story of the young girl from the countryside that pierre and françoise couple, who are trying to keep a theater open in paris, have adopted as their patron, is far from the established judgements of the period and the ideals of the government. The guest girl, which becomes a love triangle, shaken by the existence of the other and dragged into conflicts, carries traces from simone de beauvoir's life and the intellectual world she was in before the war.
