summary:During the great intellectual transformations that took place in europe between the 16th and 18th centuries, on the one hand, ideas that supported women's presence in public life were developing, on the other hand, social gender norms had become sharper.

This third volume of the women's history series, which focuses on the experiences of women in the west and offers a multidimensional history, examines women's positions in work and education, motherhood roles, and established beauty norms, while laying out the female image produced in fields such as art and literature.

the book also examines how women challenged the social norms during this period, both individually and collectively, and their struggle to open up space for themselves in the intellectual and political sphere.

“editors emphasize the ability of women in early modern europe to act within a degrading society, thus presenting an important opposing stance to studies that treat women as absolute victims.

”–richard m.

golden, review of religious studies“like its predecessors, this volume will significantly increase and deepen the knowledge base in this area, laying a solid basis for further work.

”– virginia quarterly reviewThis volume is a high-level academic work that is quite attractive to everyone who is interested in this period of history.
